On 24th May 2026, the Rotary Club of Patan Durbar Square, in collaboration with the Self Help Group for Cerebral Palsy Nepal, successfully organized a community support program at Dhulikhel Sunrise Resort, Kavre, under the DDF Program of Rotary International District 3292.
The program was conducted in the gracious presence of District Governor Rtn. Binod Koirala as Chief Guest, along with district team members, Rotarians, caregivers, and beneficiary families.
A total of 50 families of children and adults with Cerebral Palsy from Kavre benefited from the initiative through the distribution of induction stoves with utensils. The project was led by Rtn. Dr. Pragya Karmacharya Rajbhandari, reflecting strong leadership and commitment to inclusive community service.
The primary objective of the initiative was to support vulnerable families by providing a safer, cleaner, and more convenient cooking alternative during the ongoing gas shortage. Many families had been relying on firewood for cooking, leading to excessive smoke exposure and associated health risks, particularly for mothers and caregivers.
The intervention significantly improved daily living conditions and promoted healthier home environments. Beneficiary families expressed deep happiness and gratitude, sharing that the support would reduce smoke exposure, save time, improve cooking convenience, and help lower household expenses.
Key impacts of the program included:
- Improved access to clean and safe cooking solutions for 50 families
- Reduction in indoor air pollution caused by firewood use
- Relief during the ongoing cooking gas shortage
- Improved health and comfort for caregivers and families
- Promotion of safer and more sustainable household practices
- Enhanced dignity and quality of life for families of persons with Cerebral Palsy
The program also strengthened collaboration between Rotary Club of Patan Durbar Square and the Self Help Group for Cerebral Palsy Nepal, reinforcing a shared commitment to supporting individuals with disabilities and their families.
At the conclusion of the program, a cake-cutting celebration was organized by Rtn. Dr. Pragya Karmacharya Rajbhandari to mark two special recognitions: her receipt of the Dr. Suniti Gopal Acharya Award for outstanding contribution to the health sector, particularly in Cerebral Palsy care, and the selection of Rtn. CA Gyanendra Bhari as Assistant Governor for Rotary Year 2026–27. The celebration added a moment of pride and joy to the impactful service event.
